Commemorative Year 2011/2012

The Battle of Wittstock – 375 Years

2011 was the 375th anniversary of the Battle of Wittstock. The Brandenburg State Archaeological Museum, in cooperation with the Museum of the Thirty Years War and the House of Brandenburg-Prussian History, were marking the occasion with a series of events between april of 2011 and april of 2012.

The Museum of the Thirty Years War is housed in the Old Bishop’s Castle in the historic town centre of Wittstock, Foto: A. Zeiger, Museum Wittstock.

The highlight has been the special exhibition «1636 – their last battle» in Brandenburg, which closed the commemorative year in april of 2012. The exhibition can also be seen from the 12th october of 2012 to the 3rd march of 2013 in the Bavarian State Archaeological Collection in Munich and from the 30th may of 2013 to the 12th may of 2013 at the Militärhistorisches Museum der Bundeswehr in Dresden.
